Kobe Bryant Chosen for Two Covers of NBA 2K21

Kobe Bryant, the late Los Angeles Lakers star, is set to grace the front of the current and next-gen “Mamba Forever” editions of the NBA 2K21 video game, according to ABC7 News.

Bryant is the third cover athlete who has been announced.

“Relentless. Driven. A true competitor,” 2K Sports officials said of Bryant, according to The Spun. “We celebrate Kobe Bryant as our Cover Athlete for the Current Gen Mamba Forever Edition.”

The other athletes receiving the honor include Portland Trailblazers’ Damian Lillard and New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson. Lillard will appear on the game’s PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions and Williamson, the next-gen cover athlete, will appear on the game’s Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X editions.

Bryant also appeared as the cover athlete for NBA 2K10 and as the Legend edition for NBA 2K17. He retired four years ago from the Lakers after playing for the team for 20 years. He ended his career with five NBA championships, two Finals MVP awards, 18 All-Star Game appearances, and 33,643 points, according to ESPN.

The game’s release date has not yet been announced.
