Joe Biden Chooses Kamala Harris as His Running Mate

Sen. Kamala Harris of California has made history as Joe Biden’s pick for his Democratic running mate, making her the first Black woman and the first Asian American to appear on a major party ticket, according to ABC News.

Harris is Biden’s fulfillment of the promise he made to have a female vice presidential candidate. Biden said Harris has impressed him over the years, according to CNBC.

“Back when Kamala was Attorney General, she worked closely with Beau,” Biden said in a tweet, referring to his late son, Beau Biden. “I watched as they took on the big banks, lifted up working people, and protected women and kids from abuse. I was proud then, and I’m proud now to have her as my partner in this campaign.”

Harris, dropped out of the presidential race in December, and later opened a joint fundraising committee with the Democratic National Committee. She was able to raise six figure checks for the Democratic Party.

The NAACP, said Harris being named as Joe Biden’s running mate is a “defining moment in U.S. history,” according to BoingBoing.
