Apple Preparing to Launch 5G iPhones This October

Apple suppliers have orders to build at least 75 million 5G iPhones later this year, showing demand for the cell phones is holding up despite the pandemic, according to Bloomberg. That figure is in line with Apple’s 2018 and 2019 iPhone production targets, according to Business Insider. The tech behemoth is anticipating shipments of the iPhones could reach 80 million units this year.

“Apple’s record June quarter was driven by double-digit growth in both Products and Services and growth in each of our geographic segments,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in its recent third-quarter earnings call. “In uncertain times, this performance is a testament to the important role our products play in our customers’ lives and to Apple’s relentless innovation.”

Apple plans to launch four new models next month. They will have fifth-generation wireless speeds, a wider choice of screen sizes and a different design. Apple is also preparing a new iPad Air with an edge-to-edge iPad Pro-like screen, two new Apple Watch models and its first over-ear headphones outside the Beats brand. A smaller HomePod speaker is also planned.

The four new iPhones will be split into two basic and two high-end models for the first time and will feature OLED displays with upgraded clarity and color. The two regular iPhones will come in a new 5.4-inch size and a 6.1-inch option. The Pro devices will have a choice of a 6.1-inch or an enlarged 6.7-inch display, the largest Apple has used in an iPhone.
