The Weeknd to Perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Three-time Grammy winner The Weeknd is set to perform next year at the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, according to ESPN. The singer, whose current album “After Hours” is the most-streamed R&B record of all time, announced the upcoming performance on Instagram.

“We all grow up watching the world’s biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position,” The Weeknd said, according to Variety. “I’m humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year.”

The singer was also named as one of Time Magazine’s most influential people this year. His song “Blinding Lights” was certified platinum five times by the Recording Industry Association of America and it broke the record for Billboard’s longest-running Number 1 on its national radio chart.

Roc Nation will co-executive produce the halftime show with Jesse Collins, and it will air during the game on CBS. It marks the second year of a partnership involving the NFL, Pepsi, and Roc Nation. Roc Nation CEO Jay-Z said the singer will be a huge asset for this year’s production because “his soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry.”

Other big acts who have performed at previous Super Bowl halftime shows include Beyoncé, Coldplay, U2, Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, and Jennifer Lopez with Shakira. Super Bowl LV is scheduled to take place on Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
