Halsey Blasts Grammy Awards For Snubbing Artists Like The Weeknd

Singer Halsey has taken to social media to speak out against the Grammy Awards, accusing them of accepting bribes and unfairly snubbing The Weeknd, Variety reports. Other singers, including Elton John, Kid Cudi, Drake, and Charlie Puth have also criticized the Grammys since last week’s 2021 nominations were announced.

Halsey, who was also overlooked in the nominations, released a successful album this year that debuted at number two on the charts, according to Billboard. Her album, Manic, included the hit single, “Without Me,” which hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

She has received just two Grammy nominations to date, both four years ago for her features on other tracks. However, she has never received any nominations in a solo category. The Weeknd released one of the most popular albums of the year, After Hours, which featured the hit single,”Blinding Lights,” that has broken multiple music records.

Halsey said she wanted to speak delicately about what she referred to as such an “exclusive process.”

“It can often be about behind the scenes private performances, knowing the right people, campaigning through the grapevine, with the right handshakes and ‘bribes’ that can be just ambiguous enough to pass as ‘not-bribes,” Halsey posted on her Instagram Story. “And if you get that far, it’s about committing to exclusive TV performances and making sure you help the Academy make their millions in advertising on the night of the show. Perhaps sometimes it is but it’s not always about the music or quality or culture.”

She added she is “thrilled” for her friends who were nominated, but hopes to see change in the future.
