As the pandemic has shuttered movie theaters nationwide, Warner Bros. Entertainment has made an unparalleled announcement that it will stream 17 of its new films next year on HBO Max the exact same day they debut in theaters, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The move will impact even anticipated blockbusters, including “The Matrix 4,” “The Suicide Squad,” and “Dune.” Those films and others are scheduled to be on the streaming service for 31 days.

Some of the other projects that will stream on HBO Max next year include: “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” “The Little Things,” “Elvis,” “In the Heights,” and “Judas and the Black Messiah,” according to Gizmodo. Warner Bros. officials say taking this step will be advantageous for them as well as for the movie business as a whole.

“It allows us to do a global release and a national release in what we think is going to be a checkerboarded theatrical market place for the bulk of 2021,” Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman, said. “We think where theaters are open, and consumers can go, that a lot of people will choose to go to the theater, especially for big movies.”

Its film, “Wonder Woman,” is already slated to stream on HBO Max and will be shown in movie theaters this Christmas Day. However, HBO Max is only available for customers in the U.S. As a result, Warner Bros. is still planning to roll out its new slate next year to international audiences in movie theaters.
