Discovery Plus Debuts to Amazon Fire TV and Roku

Discovery Plus goes live today for the first time nationwide, according to Variety. As part of its launch, the streaming service will be available on many platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google devices, and Apple TV.

Verizon is providing 12 months free of Discovery Plus to many of its customers, according to Deadline. Android, Microsoft Xbox One and Series S/X devices, and new Samsung smart televisions are also carrying Discovery Plus.

“As we go live with Discovery Plus today in the U.S., we are thrilled to be working with best-in-class partners to make it available everywhere our fans are,” David Zaslav, president and CEO of Discovery Inc., said. “Our ambition is simple: bring consumers the definitive and most complete destination for real-life entertainment at a price point that makes this the perfect companion for every household’s streaming and TV portfolio.”

Discovery Plus offers 55,000 episodes of TV and includes shows from Discovery’s cable networks, which include HGTV, Food Network, and Discovery Channel, as well as exclusive original programming. Zaslav said the streamer will profit from the “world’s greatest collection of non-fiction brands and content” that dates back more than 30 years. This includes “90 Day Fiancé” and new “House Hunters” episodes, according to The Verge.

The parent company is planning for its service to bring in “tens of millions” of subscribers. However, Discovery executives have not yet identified a particular subscriber target.

Discovery Plus has also entered into a multi-year deal with Vodafone, so subscribers in the UK and 11 European territories will have access to it.
