Taylor Swift’s ‘folklore’ is Officially the No. 1 Album of 2020

Taylor Swift’s ‘folklore’ is Officially the No. 1 Album of 2020

Taylor Swift’s eighth studio album, folklore, made the No. 1 spot on Rolling Stone‘s Year-End Top 200 Albums Chart. Swift’s album raked in nearly 2.3 million album-equivalent units last year.

folklore beat out Lil Baby’s sophomore album, My Turn. It came in second with 2.1 million album-equivalent-units, according to Yahoo News.

folklore was a surprise album that dropped last July. The album broke records and had the biggest sales week of 2020. It also saw 1.1 billion on-demand audio streams and, with more than 1.2 million sales, was the highest-selling album of 2020.

In addition, the album broke Rolling Stone’s 200 record for the most consecutive weeks at number one. It spent six straight weeks at the top of the list. When Swift announced the release of folklore, she told her fans on Instagram it was a labor of love.

“In isolation, my imagination has run wild and this album is the result, a collection of songs and stories that flowed like a stream of consciousness,” Swift posted. “Picking up a pen was my way of escaping into fantasy, history and memory. I’ve told these stories to the best of my ability with all the love, wonder and whimsy they deserve.”

Swift also released another album last month, evermore, which also went number one upon release alongside the single “willow,” marking only the third time an artist has ever debuted a number one album and song simultaneously, the first being Swift herself with folklore and “cardigan” last year.
