Netflix Plans to Premiere a New Film Each Week in 2021

As the pandemic rages on, Netflix is preparing to entertain by releasing a new film every week in 2021, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There’s a total of 70 upcoming films, including a trilogy, eight animated projects, 52 live-action films in English, and 10 non-English movies.

Some of the movies on Netflix’s slate are: Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot’s “Red Notice,” Halle Berry’s directorial debut “Bruised,” Zendaya’s “Malcolm & Marie,” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Don’t Look Up,” which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ariana Grande, and Meryl Streep.

Other films include the Western, “The Harder They Fall,” which is produced by Jay-Z and stars Idris Elba, Regina King, and Lakeith Stanfield, as well as the musical, “Tick, Tick… Boom!,” according to Variety.

“Fear Street,” a film trilogy from Peter Chernin, is also expected to be released this year with each film possibly premiering just a month apart, probably around Halloween. Netflix has also acquired Sony Pictures Animation’s “Wish Dragon” from the same studio that distributed Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.” “Wish Dragon” is voiced by Constance Wu, Will Yun Lee, John Cho and Jimmy O. Yang.

Netflix will most likely add more films that it may acquire from producers and at film festivals later in the year. The company has greatly benefited from the lockdown restrictions implemented intermittently in cities as Covid-19 cases have surged nationwide. Netflix, which is the biggest streamer worldwide, added more than 28 million subscribers in the first three quarters last year due to the pandemic.
