The story of the war between hedge funds and Reddit over GameStop stock may still be developing, but Netflix is already banking on making a movie about it, according to Deadline. The script for the currently untitled film will be penned by the Oscar-winning screenwriter, Mark Boal, who wrote “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Actor Noah Centineo, who stars in the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” films, will play one of the leading roles, according to CNET. Scott Galloway, tech expert, journalist, and NYU professor, is in talks to serve as a consultant on the script.

Brad Weston, founder and CEO at Makeready, along with Definition Entertainment’s Nick Styne are producing the movie. Mark Sourian will be the executive producer.

Netflix also has competition. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. plans to develop a separate project on the same subject based on a manuscript by author Ben Mezrich titled “The Antisocial Network,” according to The Wall Street Journal. Mezrich also wrote The Accidental Billionaires, which was adapted into the 2010 film “The Social Network. The production companies will most likely be in a rush to see who can get the project made first.

A group of Reddit users recently bought up shares of GameStop, increasing the company’s value. The move undermined traders’ bets on the stock, leading to major wins and losses for various players.
