Marjorie Taylor Greene is Removed from All Congressional Committees

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a noted conspiracy theorist who has been affiliated with QAnon, was censured by the House of Representatives yesterday when a Democratic-led effort voted to strip her of her committee assignments, according to BoingBoing. The vote was 230-199, with 11 Republicans voting against her, according to CNN.

The vote came after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a Republican, refused to censure Greene although he has referred to controversial comments she has said in the past as “deeply disturbing.” Despite this, he still did all he could to avoid the vote from being taken.

Some Republicans argued that taking such an action would mark a dangerous precedent. However, Speak of the House Nancy Pelosi vehemently disagreed.

“None, not at all,” Pelosi said of a precedent being set. “Not at all. If any of our members threatened the safety of other members we’d be the first ones to take them off of a committee. That’s it.”

Greene attempted to talk the House out of the vote herself by giving a lengthy speech ahead of it. She said that after “seeing things in the news that didn’t make sense to me,” she “stumbled across” QAnon — the far-right conspiracy theorist group — at the end of 2017.

The Georgia Republican was also heavily criticized for comments she made two years ago after the Parkland, Florida, school shootings in which she said the shooting was a “false flag” operation. She also indicated on Facebook in the past that she supported the execution of Democratic lawmakers before being elected to Congress.
