Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z Among First-Time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z Among First-Time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its nominees this morning, and some heavy hitters are in the mix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They include: the Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Carole King,  L.L. Cool J, and Rage Against the Machine.

Tina Turner, Iron Maiden, and Dionne Warwick were also nominated. Chaka Khan received her seventh nomination this year. She was nominated four times when she was still part of Rufus and Chaka Khan.

The Go-Go’s, who are the first all-female band to be at the top of the Billboard 200, wrote their own songs, and played all the instruments, were nominated as well.

“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates” John Sykes, Chairman, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in a statement. “These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”

The performers inducted will be announced in May, according to CNN. This year’s induction is scheduled to take place in the fall.

Fans are also allowed to vote for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They can cast their votes online between now and April 30 at RockHall.com or at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The top five artists with the most votes will be on a “fans’ ballot” that will be counted with the other ballots in order to choose this year’s inductees.
