Capitol Rioter is Caught, Thanks to Bumble

Robert Chapman from New York is one of the latest Capitol rioters to be arrested; however, in his case, he was located by authorities by a match on the dating app Bumble, according to CNN. Chapman reportedly bragged on the app that he had been involved in the Jan. 6 riot.

“I did storm the Capitol” and “made it all the way into Statuary Hall,” he said.

In addition, he insisted that some reporters interviewed him that day. After reading what he said on the app, the Bumble user told him: “we are not a match.” Chapman reportedly said in return: “I suppose not.”

The Bumble user contacted authorities on Jan. 13 as was stated in court filings, according to Yahoo News. Screenshots of the conversation between Chapman and the Bumble user were supplied to authorities.

A Facebook post appeared to show Chapman inside Statuary Hall at the Capitol. The FBI also looked at body-camera footage recorded on Jan. 6 by the Metropolitan Police Department during the riot, according to a court document by Kenneth Kroll, who is part of the FBI Task Force Office.

The police footage proves Chapman’s claims on the Bumble app that he was inside of the Capitol Building. Chapman is also seen in that footage filming what is going on inside of the Capitol during the riot on his cell phone. The FBI compared images of Chapman at the Capitol with a photo of him taken during a 2017 arrest in New York.
