Britney Spears Will Address the Court at Conservatorship Hearing

Britney Spears Will Address the Court at Conservatorship Hearing

Britney Spears was granted a request yesterday to directly address the court that is handling her conservatorship, according to CNBC. Her next status hearing is scheduled for June 23.

Her attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, asked that the hearing take place when the court convened yesterday to address accounting and fee issues, which were rescheduled to receive additional information. It is not yet known if Britney Spears will ask to end her conservatorship.

“The conservatee, she has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly,” Ingham said during the Tuesday hearing. “This does not relate to any of the matters on the calendar now and it does not related to the accounting or the fee issues.”

Spears has been under this conservatorship for 13 years, according to ABC News. Her father, Jamie Spears, has served as her conservator since that time. However, last year she filed a petition to remove her father for the consesrvatorship.

Britney Spears’ attorney said she was “afraid” of her father. Instead of removing her father as the conservator, the court decided to appoint Bessemer Trust, a private financial institution, as a co-conservator along with him.

Britney Spears’ fans have also even started a #FreeBritney movement. Many of her fans say Jamie Spears is abusing what initially began as a temporary arrangement.
