Mambacita Clothing Line, Named for Gianna Bryant, Sells Out in Less than One Day

Mambacita Clothing Line, Named for Gianna Bryant, Sells Out in Less than One Day

An athletic apparel line named Mambacita created in honor of Kobe Bryant’s late daughter Gianna sold out in less than one day over the weekend, according to CNN. The line, which went on sale Saturday morning, was out of stock by the afternoon.

Last Saturday would have been Gianna’s 15th birthday. The star basketball player died in a helicopter crash along with her father Kobe and seven other people, in January of last year.

Her mother Vanessa Bryant said 100 percent of the proceeds from the clothing line will benefit the “Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, which is dedicated to creating positive impact for underserved athletes and young women in sports,” according to CBS News.

Mambacita was Gianna’s nickname, and it came from her father’s nickname “Black Mamba” from his legendary career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“Gigi was especially motivated to change the way everyone viewed women in sports, and it’s fitting that this capsule represents her values,” Bryant wrote on Instagram under a photo of her and her three daughters wearing the apparel line.

Vanessa Bryant collaborated with Dannijo, a line owned by two sisters. The limited-edition tie dye capsule collection consisted of a two-piece adult sweat set, for $332, and a children’s sweat suit for $224. Adult hoodies sold for $224 while children’s hoodies cost $124. Face masks sold for $24.

The details on the clothes also celebrate Gigi with the use of purple, representing the Lakers, and the color black to represent Gigi’s basketball team. #PlayGigisWay is embroidered on the right arm of each hoodie.
