Target Pulls Pokémon Cards from Stores

As trading cards grow in popularity, Target has decided to remove all Pokémon cards from its stores as a precaution, according to The Verge. The decision follows a recent altercation that occurred in the parking lot of a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Target store in which some shoppers were fighting over sports trading cards, according to Yahoo Sports.

A man was injured during the fight. It reportedly came to an end only after it was evident that he had a gun. While the victim did not shoot, he, apparently, had a concealed carry weapons license.

Police later arrested four men after the brawl. They were charged with battery, strangulation, and disorderly conduct. Investigators do not know which trading cards they were arguing about; however, as a result, Target officials decided to pull all MLB, NFL, NBA, and Pokémon trading cards from its stores “out of an abundance of caution.”

“The safety of our guests and our team is our top priority,” Target executives said, according to Bleeding Cool. “Out of an abundance of caution, we’ve decided to temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores, effective May 14. Guests can continue to shop these cards online at Target.com,”

Pokémon cards, in particular, have seen soaring popularity recently. The Pokémon company has been working overtime to print enough cards as a result.

There have also been reports of some target shoppers opening cereal boxes while shopping in the stores in order to steal Pokémon cards from them. Target also recently began to limit the number of packs that customers can actually buy.
