TikTok Launches Video Resume Pilot Program

TikTok Launches Video Resume Pilot Program

TikTok launched its new pilot program “Resumes” on Wednesday, inviting users to submit job application videos directly through the app, according to The Verge.

About three dozen companies – including Chipotle, Shopify, Target, and media groups such as PopSugar and the Meredith Corporation – are participating in the short-term pilot. They will be accepting applications through July 31, 2021.

“#CareerTok is already a thriving subculture on the platform and we can’t wait to see how the community embraces TikTok Resumes and helps to reimagine recruiting and job discovery,” said Nick Tran, TikTok Global Head of Marketing.

TikTok users nationwide are eligible to create and submit videos to recruiters through the app with the #TikTokResumes hashtag, or on the dedicated site tiktokresumes.com. Once uploaded, the content is public, so TikTok warns against including any personal contact information in the video resumes themselves.

Gen Z comprises over 60% of TikTok users, but “Resumes” is not only intended for those born after 1996. The program features listings that range from entry to senior level positions. Some current openings include hourly jobs at Target, Great Clips, and Sweetgreen, as as well as an on-camera host at All Recipes, a video producer for the Detroit Pistons, a senior data engineer at Shopify, and a WWE Superstar.

The goal is to “bring more value to people’s experience with [the app] by enhancing the utility of the platform as a channel for recruitment,” TikTok said of the service. According to TechCrunch, however, “Resumes” is ultimately an attempt to encourage both brands and creators to pour even more time and money back into TikTok itself.
