Kanye West to Acquire Parler

Kanye West to Acquire Parler

After being restricted from Instagram and locked out of his Twitter account, rapper Kanye West now plans to purchase the conservative social media app Parler. The acquisition was announced Monday, though terms have not yet been publicly disclosed. Parler executives expect to close the deal before the end of the year, according to CNBC.

“In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” West said in a statement.

Twitter temporarily locked West out of its platform after he posted an antisemitic tweet stating that he would go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

Parler’s parent company, Parlement Technologies, plans to offer technical services and cloud support as part of the deal. Representatives for Parlement Technologies are applauding the move and highlighting what an asset West, who now goes by the name, Ye, will be to their platform.

“This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech,” Parlement CEO George Farmer said. “Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again. Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative. Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals.”

Farmer is married to conservative Candace Owens who is a friend and advocate of West’s.

Launched in 2018, Parler spiked in popularity around the 2020 election with approximately 2.9 million daily users. It has been widely adopted by conservative pundits and politicians.

After the January 6 assault on the Capitol, Apple and Google removed Parler from their respective app stores, but it has since been restored to both platforms.
