Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, has died at the age of 54, according to CNN. The singer-songwriter suffered cardiac arrest on Thursday in her Calabasas home near Los Angeles.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement Thursday night. “She was the most passionate, strong, and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”
Presley was found unconscious by her maid. Her ex-husband Danny Keough, with whom she had been living since their son Benjamin committed suicide nearly three years ago at the age of 27, reportedly administered CPR until paramedics arrived and transported her to a hospital where she died.
Presley had attended the Golden Globes two days prior in support of the 2022 Baz Luhrmann film “Elvis” and its star Austin Butler, who won Best Actor for his portrayal of the King of Rock and Roll. She also traveled to Graceland, her father’s home in Memphis, Tennessee, last weekend to commemorate what would have been his 88th birthday.
Both her father and paternal grandmother died from heart issues at young ages. Elvis was only 42 when he suffered a fatal heart attack; his mother had been 46.
In addition to Keough, Lisa Marie Presley was previously married to Michael Jackson, Michael Lockwood, and Nicolas Cage. She is survived by her daughters Riley Keough and twins Finley Aaron Love and Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood.
“My and my three daughters’ lives as we knew it were completely detonated and destroyed by his death. We live in this every. Single. Day,” Presley wrote in an essay last September for National Grief Awareness Day. “Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not ‘get over it,’ you do not ‘move on,’ period.”
Lisa Marie Presley will be buried beside her son in the Meditation Garden at Graceland where Elvis, his parents, and his paternal grandmother have also been laid to rest.
