Suspect Arrested for Murder of Cash App Founder in San Francisco

Nima Momeni, the suspect accused of fatally stabbing Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco earlier this month, has been apprehended, according to a CNN report. San Francisco Police have confirmed Momeni’s arrest in connection with the murder.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins addressed the impact of the tragedy, stating, “I acknowledge and understand how the loss of a young, vibrant leader and innovator has rocked our city and even beyond.” Jenkins is currently preparing a motion to hold Momeni without bail.

Authorities have disclosed that Momeni, 38, was acquainted with Lee, but the details of their relationship remain undisclosed. California Secretary of State Records reveal that Momeni, who resides and works in a loft apartment across the bay from San Francisco in Emeryville, California, runs an IT business that specializes in technical support and other services. Momeni’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday afternoon.

The murder took place in San Francisco’s Rincon Hill neighborhood in the early morning hours of April 4. Surveillance footage captured Lee alone on Main Street, appearing to be in distress as he clutched his side and used his cell phone to call 911.

Lee’s brother, Tim Oliver Lee, shared a touching tribute on Facebook, as reported by the Associated Press:

“Bob loved being in San Francisco, and San Francisco loved Bob. Walking down the street would sometimes be difficult because every young person with a dream would search him out, and he would make time for every one.”

Tim Lee also expressed the family’s gratitude to the San Francisco Police Department for arresting Momeni.

The tech community in Silicon Valley has been deeply shaken by Lee’s death, which also underscores the rising criminal activity in San Francisco in recent months. Lee, 43, was the former Chief Technology Officer of Square and played an instrumental role in launching Cash App. Later, he joined MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency and digital payments startup, as the company’s Chief Product Officer. Originally from Missouri, Bob Lee had recently relocated to Miami with his father.
