Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Signs Record-Breaking Five-Year Extension

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Signs Record-Breaking Five-Year Extension

Jalen Hurts, the talented quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, has just made history by signing the most lucrative contract in the NFL to date, according to CNBC. At just 24 years old, Hurts inked an unprecedented five-year, $255 million deal yesterday, as reported by ESPN.

Eagles CEO Jeffrey Lurie recently expressed his optimism about Hurts.

“The thing with Jalen that I’m so optimistic about is his incredible passion for being phenomenal. Seeing him virtually every day, his dedication and drive are undeniable.”

The historic agreement includes a staggering $179.304 million in guaranteed money, with $110 million guaranteed at signing. Notably, Hurts’ contract also features the first no-trade clause in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles.

With an annual salary of $51 million, Hurts was a strong Most Valuable Player candidate last season. He showcased his skills by throwing 3,701 yards with 22 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Additionally, Hurts displayed his versatility by rushing for 760 yards and 13 scores. The Eagles originally drafted Hurts as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Before entering the NFL, Hurts made a name for himself as the first freshman quarterback to start under coach Nick Saban at the University of Alabama. However, Hurts was eventually benched during the team’s national championship game in favor of Tua Tagovailoa the following season, who later secured the starting position.

After transferring to the University of Oklahoma for his senior year, Hurts finished second to Joe Burrow in the Heisman Trophy voting. Since joining the NFL, Hurts has participated in the playoffs twice, been named to the Pro Bowl, and selected as an All-Pro.

Additionally, Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl last February, where they were narrowly defeated 38-35 by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs’ quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, previously held the record for the highest annual deal when he signed a 10-year, $450 million extension three years ago.

Hurts is represented by an all-female management team from the prestigious sports agency Klutch Sports Group. His primary agent, Nicole Lynn, was recently promoted to president of Klutch Sports Group’s football division earlier this month.

Hurts praised his management team in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I have a team of straight hustlers. They get things done. And that’s how I am on the field and off the field.”
