Tinder Is Inviting Friends and Family to Play Matchmaker

Tinder has unveiled a new feature called “Tinder Matchmaker” that empowers users’ friends and family to recommend potential dates on the app. Building on the concept of the “friend test,” the app’s innovation enhances the decision-making process that leads people to swipe right, according to Gizmodo.

Rapper Coi Leray teamed up with Tinder to champion the feature.

“Handing your phone over to the friend group was the original vibe check,” Leray said. “Obviously, you want your friends to like whoever you’re crushing on, and Tinder Matchmaker is a playful method to earn that bestie stamp of approval even before a match is made.”

The mechanism allows users to circulate a unique 24-hour Tinder link to a maximum of 15 friends, including those who are not registered with the app. To ensure user privacy and choice, friends and family cannot initiate chats or communicate with the recommended individual. Moreover, users retain the autonomy to decline any suggested profiles that do not align with their preferences.

“Tinder Matchmaker” grew out of a comprehensive survey Tinder conducted across the U.S., UK, and Australia. After polling 2,500 people aged 18 to 25, they found that a significant 75 percent of respondents frequently discussed their dating lives with friends.

“For years, singles have solicited advice from their friends when it comes to choosing a match on Tinder,” Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s Chief Marketing Officer, said. “With Tinder Matchmaker, we’ve streamlined this process, integrating your trusted network into your dating experience. It grants you a fresh perspective, potentially highlighting matches you might otherwise overlook.”

Tinder Matchmaker is currently live in 15 countries, including the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, and South Korea, according to The Verge. The company intends to roll the feature out globally in the coming months.
