Taylor Swift to Release Eighth Studio Album ‘folklore’ Tonight

Taylor Swift announced in a series of Instagram posts this morning that she plans to drop a surprise album at midnight, according to CBS News. The album is called folklore and was recorded “in isolation,” she said.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed,” she wrote. “My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.”

While she wrote and recorded it entirely while quarantining, she did work with co-writers, including Grammy winner Bon Iver; producer, songwriter, and her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff; and Aaron Dessner from The National, according to CNN. Straying from her norm, Swift also released details about the album immediately, including the song titles and a bonus track.

Her usual tactics include using countdown clocks and hinting around, sending diehard fans into guessing games for weeks. Tonight’s release will kick off with the premiere of the video for her new song, “Cardigan,” which she wrote and directed. Her last album, “Lover,” was released last August.
