Starcraft is Among Four Inductees into World Video Game Hall of Fame

Award-winning StarCraft is among the newest inductees into the Strong National Museum of Play’s World Video Game Hall of Fame, according to VentureBeat. The other video games include Microsoft Flight Simulator, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?, and Nintendo’s Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing’s popularity has soared as a result of lockdowns, according to The Boston Globe, and Starcraft is considered the largest e-sports title of its day.

“It’s regarded as one of the best real-time strategy games of all time and significantly impacted many of the real-time strategy games that have followed in the past two decades,” digital games curator Andrew Borman said.

This year’s inductees won over such competitors that included the original Call of Duty, Portal, Guitar Hero and FarmVille, according to EnGadget.

StarCraft is the second Blizzard game to be accepted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame. World of WarCraft was the first when it was inducted into the museum about six years ago.

While any fan is allowed to nominate a video game, a group of journalists, video game historians and other experts are the ones who aid in the actual decision-making process every year. The National Museum of Play chooses games “that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general.”

The Hall of Fame pays tribute to popular computer games as well as handheld, arcade and console games, and is located in Rochester, New York.
