In the wake of this week\u2019s Colorado mass shooting that killed 10 people, President Joe Biden spoke out yesterday saying it is time for the Senate to pass a gun control law, according to NPR<\/a>. He added that Monday\u2019s shooting left him and First Lady Jill Biden \u201cdevastated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save lives in the future and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act,\u201d Biden said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He added that among the guns that should be banned are assault weapons. There should also not be any loopholes when it comes to background checks, Biden said.<\/p>\n

The House of Representatives passed a gun control bill earlier this month that requires background checks on every gun sale and transfer. However, passing the measure in the Senate is considered to be a long shot.<\/p>\n

The bill also includes the \u201cCharleston rule\u201d, named after the 2015 shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina, church which killed nine people. The rule adds time to the review period for background checks, making it 20 days instead of three.<\/p>\n

Biden also is not ruling out possibly taking executive action regarding gun control in light of current events, according to CNN<\/a>. In addition, he said from the White House that it should not be a partisan dilemma, but \u201can American issue.\u201d He ordered that flags be flown at half-staff through to this Saturday in memory of the victims in the Colorado shooting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
