The Hollywood Foreign Press Association continues to come under fire for its lack of diversity, and now NBC executives say they will not air the annual Golden Globes next year, according to the Reuters<\/a>. The HFPA, which sponsors the Golden Globe Awards every year, has also been accused of favoritism, conflicts of interest, and corruption, according to NPR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to believe that the HFPA is committed to meaningful reform,” NBC said in a statement on Monday. “However, change of this magnitude takes time and work, and we feel strongly that the HFPA needs time to do it right. As such, NBC will not air the 2022 Golden Globes. Assuming the organization executes on its plan, we are hopeful we will be in a position to air the show in January 2023.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Executives at Netflix, WarnerMedia, and Amazon Studios say they are also cutting ties with the HFPA unless they make significant changes.<\/p>\n

Some of Hollywood\u2019s top stars are also weighing in on the issue \u2013 Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo have joined the ranks of those criticizing the HFPA. In addition, Tom Cruise returned the three Golden Globe statues he won for his roles in \u201cJerry Maguire,\u201d \u201cMagnolia,\u201d and \u201cBorn on the Fourth of July\u201d in protest, according to Variety<\/a>. Filmmaker Ava DuVernay applauded Cruise\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
