The video debuted on Sunday and had amassed almost 7.5 million views by Monday afternoon, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/pop-culture\/pop-culture-news\/kendrick-lamar-uses-deepfakes-morph-ye-will-smith-new-music-video-rcna27907\"><span class=\"s1\">NBC News<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Whether produced in photo, video, or audio form, deepfakes are often considered problematic in their use of artificial intelligence (AI) to make entirely fake content look or sound real. Lamar, who directed and produced the video with longtime collaborator Dave Free, embeds the controversial tech at the center of the clip, inextricably linking what he says to how he says it visually.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/thepitch\/kendrick-lamar-the-heart-part-5-video-deepfake-technology\/\">Pitchfork<\/a><\/span>\u00a0writer Marc Hogan describes the particular usefulness of deepfake technology in the context of \u201cThe Heart Part 5\u201d music video and Lamar\u2019s generally subversive body of work.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>While the prospect of fake videos that seem legit has plenty of disturbing implications, it\u2019s also a perfect tool for an artist who has long delighted in employing a range of voices in his work and\u00a0destabilizing\u00a0listeners\u2019 concepts of identity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cSouth Park\u201d creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are credited with the deepfakes throughout the music video, which is the first project to come from the partnership between their studio Deep Voodoo and Lamar\u2019s company pgLang, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2022\/music\/news\/kendrick-lamar-heart-part-5-video-south-park-trey-parker-matt-stone-1235262356\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Variety<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lamar is known for breaking barriers and thinking outside of the box. He has won 14 Grammys for his albums \u201cDAMN,\u201d \u201cTo Pimp a Butterfly,\u201d and the soundtrack for the Marvel movie \u201cBlack Panther,\u201d and also received the Pulitzer Prize for music for \u201cDAMN\u201d \u2013 the first non-classical, non-jazz album to earn the coveted award.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lamar\u2019s \u201cThe Heart Part 5\u201d video marks his return after nearly four years out of the spotlight.
